Bouncing GIF maker — make a photo bounce

Gifsy's bouncing GIF maker makes one photo hop: two quick bounces per loop, each landing back where it started. Good for a jumping-for-joy reaction in Discord or Slack. Add a photo, pick a speed and download a 480 × 480 GIF. Free, no sign-up, no watermark, and nothing is uploaded: it all runs in this tab.

What the Bounce effect does

The photo is drawn slightly enlarged (1.16×) and lifted by up to 7% of the frame height on a curve that touches down twice per loop. The extra scale means the edges never show while it's in the air.

  • Hop height

    7% of the frame

    Two hops per loop.

  • Crop

    1.16×

So no empty edge shows mid-hop.

  • Loop

    30 frames

About 1.5 s at 20 fps. Boomerang doubles it.

  • Output

    480 × 480 GIF

    Centre crop, one shared palette.

How to make a bounce GIF

  1. 1

    Add a photo

JPG, PNG or WebP. Keep the subject near the middle — the GIF is a square centre crop.

  2. 2

    Bounce is already picked

Set the speed (8–30 fps). Boomerang is off; turn it on to play the loop forward, then back.

  3. 3

    Make GIF, then download

Frames render in your browser in seconds and save as animation.gif.

Photos that suit Bounce

  • Works best
  • Mascots, pets, characters and faces
  • A subject with a little space above it
  • Reaction GIFs — excited, happy, 'yay'
  • Square or near-square photos
  • Works worst
  • Landscapes and horizons — the whole view jumps
  • Subjects touching the top edge, which get clipped
  • Text-heavy images that are hard to read while moving
  • Very wide panoramas, which lose their ends to the square crop

Questions

Sending it to Slack, Discord or GitHub? Check the GIF size limits. More on effects, speed and file size in how to animate a photo into a GIF.

How high does it bounce?

Up to 7% of the frame height, twice per loop. Each hop lands exactly back at the starting position, so the loop is seamless.

Why is the photo cropped a little tighter?

It's drawn at 1.16× so that when it lifts, there's still picture behind it instead of an empty strip at the bottom.

How do I make it bounce faster?

Raise the speed slider. At 30 fps the two hops take about a second; at 8 fps they take nearly four, which reads as a slow float.

Can I bounce a cut-out with a transparent background?

Not as a GIF from this tool — transparent areas come out solid. To cut the subject out of a photo, use the sticker maker, which exports a transparent PNG or WebP.

Is it free, and is there a watermark?

Free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many GIFs you make. The only paid thing on Gifsy is credits for the separate 3D model tool.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The frames are drawn and the GIF is encoded by JavaScript in your browser tab; this tool has no upload endpoint. You can check in your browser's Network tab, or turn Wi-Fi off after your first GIF (which loads the encoder) and make another.

Make it move in real 3D

A GIF effect moves the whole picture. A 3D photo separates the subject from the background and lets a visitor tilt it on your page — real parallax from one photo, with an embed code for any website.
