3D GIF maker: turn one photo into a 3D GIF

Gifsy's 3D GIF maker turns one photo into a looping GIF where the camera moves around the subject and the depth shows: near things shift more than far ones. A depth model works out the shape and a second model lifts the subject off its background. It needs a free account and is free and unlimited. Make 3D, then press GIF for a 480 px loop of 30 frames at 20 fps. The photo stays in your browser while the scene is made.

How to make a 3D GIF from a photo

Upload one photo, press Make 3D, then press GIF. A depth model works out how far away every part of the picture is, and the export moves a camera around it for 30 frames, so near things slide past far ones and the loop ends exactly where it started. You need a free account for the middle step.

  1. 1

    Add one photo

A JPG, PNG or WebP, 640 px or more on the long side, with one clear subject and a little room around it.

  2. 2

    Make 3D

Sign in with a free account, keep the background or cut the subject out, then press Make 3D. A depth model shapes the photo.

  3. 3

    Press GIF

The loop is rendered in your browser and saved as 3d.gif. Export it as many times as you like.

What a 3D GIF looks like

Latte art in a blue cup: one photo, made 3D with Gifsy and recorded as video for this page. The GIF export turns a scene like this into a 30-frame loop.

Watch the rim of the cup against the jar behind it. The rim moves further, because it's closer. That difference is the whole effect, and your eye reads it as depth without being told.

Nothing in the picture rotates. A spinning GIF turns the photo like a record; this keeps the photo still and moves the viewpoint, which is why it looks like the cup is sitting on a real table rather than printed on a card.

Photos that work best have one subject with space around it: a product, a pet, a portrait, a figure. A subject that fills the frame has nothing behind it to slide against, so its edges smear. More in which photos work best for a 3D effect.

Where a 3D GIF fits

A 480 px, 30-frame 3D GIF is a mid-sized file: our 37 test exports in August 2026 ran from 0.6 to 3.4 MB, most around 1.7 MB. The limits below are the platforms' own, collected in the GIF size limits guide.

3D GIF maker vs spinning GIF makers

Search for a 3D GIF maker and most of what comes back moves the picture itself. 3D GIF Maker is free with no sign-up and has more than 70 animations: 360° spins, rotating cubes and spheres, flips. It also offers a 3D model feature built on Stability AI's SPAR3D. Our own spinning GIF maker turns a photo like a record, also with no account.

Those are the right pick for a logo or a sticker that should spin. This page is for the other job: a photo that should look deep, where the subject stands out from the background and the viewpoint drifts around it. That needs the depth model, and the 3D photo maker it runs in needs a free account; the spinning tools don't.

Where this tool stops

  • Good at
  • One clear subject: products, pets, portraits, characters
  • Cutting the subject out onto a colour or gradient
  • A loop with no jump and no watermark
  • Keeping the photo in your browser
  • Won't do
  • Working without an account, unlike our other GIF tools
  • Showing the back of anything: it's one photo, not a model
  • Frame-filling subjects, whose edges smear as the camera moves
  • Transparent GIFs (use the PNG still for that)

Questions

Is the 3D GIF maker free?

Yes. With a free account, 3D generations and GIF exports are unlimited, the GIF has no watermark, and commercial use is allowed.

Why does this one need an account when the other GIF tools don't?

It's part of the 3D photo maker, where scenes are tied to a free account so you can publish and manage them. Generations are unlimited, and the whole depth model runs on your device. The flat GIF effects (zoom, bounce, spin and the rest) run entirely in your browser, so they need nothing.

Is a 3D GIF the same as a 3D model?

No. It's one photo with depth pushed into it, so it has a front and nothing behind. The camera circles about 17° to each side in the GIF and stops well short of the back. If you need a model you can spin all the way round or 3D print, that's a mesh generator.

How big is a 3D GIF?

480 px on the long side, 30 frames at 20 fps. Our 37 test exports (August 2026) came out between 0.6 and 3.4 MB, 1.7 MB in the middle. That fits a Discord message (20 MB on a free account), Slack and Gmail, but it's far over the 256 KB a Discord custom emoji allows.

Can a 3D GIF have a transparent background?

No. GIF has no real transparency, so a cut-out subject is baked onto the backdrop you pick: 7 flat colours, 10 gradients or any hex colour. If you need transparency, the PNG export keeps it, as a still.

Is my photo uploaded?

Not to make the GIF. The photo stays in your browser while the scene is made, the depth model runs on your device, and the GIF is rendered there too. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to publish the scene.

Can I make the 3D GIF longer or move differently?

The GIF is fixed: one 1.5 second circle, 30 frames at 20 fps. For a longer clip, the WebM export records 3 seconds. For something visitors can move themselves, publish the scene and embed it on your site.
